Replaced the PVC today, as the old one was hanging out of the crankcase cover. No idea when that got broken, but there is a one way valve in there so not sure if this was causing a vac leak or not. On comparison of the two parts the clips which hold the pipe into the cover were snapped off.

Still having a weird intermittent running issue even though its way less than before. Got a diag tool from the web today which gave me quite alot of data, but i have nothing to reference the numbers against, i.e Fuel pressure, MAF at idle etc. If anyone knows good source of info for the 2.8v6 would be appreciated. It seems to run super smooth 80% of the time, and then the other 20 throttle response is lazy. Suspecting it might be cam position sensors, or coils...so more fun to be had.

Also replaced the window motor few days ago, so another thing crossed off the list.

Finally found the reason for the weird power issues. The timing chains have stretched (common issue on this engine) Driving hom couple of days ago through up the P0008 code for incorrect timing between crank and cam positions. Does explain why it would run great / bad within ten minutes of each other. Will be repaired next week and should be ok.

Due to high mileage/age or are there any other issues that cause this?

Neither, its just a poor quality chain. They were hardened in later years A28 engine, but 2010/11 is a problem. Alot of insignia VXR suffer the same fate, some at 30km some at 130km some at 200km it justs seems to happen eventually. If you look on www.vxronline.co.uk half the posts are about chain replacements.

There is a theory that the recommended oil from GM was not able to handle heat to well and that could be part of the cause.

Will the replacement chain be the weak OEM, "hardened" copy, or the new hardened OEM?

I doubt the oem from 2010 is even a part anymore, so it will be the newer oem I presume. I think there was changes to the tensioners in the later cars as well but not 100%

Timing chain done and water pump..car is back to normal I think, drives smooth again and more power..but tricky to test in this weather.

Oil and filter change done at the same time and right bumper indicator which has been blown for about a year so that’s inportant to :).

Expensive but needed.

New tyres day today, been running yoko ig55 studs in the winter. Put continental sport contact 6 XL on there now.

Started snowing while the change was being done...

Shoutout for kummihai for doing a great job on a Sunday. Good place and recommended.

Throwing this up for sale again. Moving out of Tallinn so need to find somthing new and with warranty.

Car still needs a few bits of work to finish it - Roof drains need painted, light bar to be repaired but the main issue with chains has been fixed and overall the car runs great.
