Hi again!
Last weekend we had this summers last speed event here in Finland. Distance was little over mile, radar stood at 1700meters and the goal was to drive +310kmh with both blue Saabs.
Blue 9-3 did it, but the 9-5 didn't. Some of you may remember stories were engines vibrations had loosen some critical bolts and caused two different technical hazards to 9-5 during this summer.
It had Verdi's con rods and Wiseco's pistons. Bore was 92,8mm and stroke was 92mm. (originals are 90mm/90mm)
Stroker engine needs to be done and balanced with extreme care. Those weren't as good as they should should have been with this engine.
This third vibration hazard destroyed the engine.
So next summer both blue Saabs will be seen in B-class as 9-5 will also have unmodified standard block
But to the more positive news
Olli and Tarmo did some improvments to their 9-3 and those modifications got their Saab way over 300kmh barrier
They did 312kmh at 1700meters. After a mile from start the speed was 308kmh. At 1000meters the speed was 276kmh.
Other Finns that have been in Estonia did in 1700meters:
-Japso 9000i 277kmh
-Hook 9-3 275kmh
Here is list of results http://www.liy.fi/tulokset/index.php?so ... auto&rev=0
And here is incar videos from 9-5's engine failure and 9-3 going like... well how would you describe it

250 participants.... ouch ...
BTW, if I got that right, no standard bikes were faster than Saab 9-3, just modified with turbos

Yes, one Hi-power piston for each owner of that 9-5 to put to living rooms bookshelves...Alkuperäinen postittaja Cyber
Sorry for engine, but you can make a table from remains or something..![]()
The 4th pistons whereabout is unknown

Matti was driving the car and had planed to keep pedal on the floor until changing to 5th gear no matter what. So reaction time to push the clutch was delayed just enought to loose that recently installed gearbox also

The condition of most expensive parts (cylinderhead & turbo) is not yet known

I was thinking something like this:
.
Can be done with R4 engine also, just some thinking needs to be done, how to make nice supports for top..
back on topic, in my opinion, If it really blew a hole to side of engine, then there is big possibility, that most of pieces left through that hole, and did not reach turbo or even head. Maybe you need to change some valves, but rest of it probably survived.
